This year, Sacred Heart welcomed eleven new faculty members. Christopher Belmonte is one of the two new staff members in the Athletic Department. After moving to the Bay Area from San Diego, he will be stepping into the role of Assistant Athletic Trainer.
Belmonte has an accomplished background in athletic training — with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Kean University and a certification from the Board of Certification as an Athletic Trainer (BOC ATC). Recently, he worked for the fifth regimen United States Marine Corps — helping injured students at Camp Pendleton. Additionally, Belbonte has worked on the United States Olympic Committee and Rugby Team.
Belmonte was inspired to become an athletic trainer after spending large amounts of time in the trainers due to repeated injuries in hockey — a high-contact sport. His own trainer played an immense role in Belmonte’s career choice; as Belmonte puts it, his trainer gave him “the route in which direction to go to follow in his pursuits.”
As a former student-athlete at a Catholic high school, Christopher says he “was drawn to Sacred Heart’s beliefs and mission” given that these values align with his own. He remarked that the faculty as SHP immediately “felt like a family,” and that “everyone got along instantly and was very welcoming.” While at SHP, he hopes to construct an environment where each and every student feels deeply motivated “to be the best person they can be — whether that is in robotics, being a doctor or an athlete.”
Beyond just the field, court, and pool, Belmonte enjoys long-distance running, hiking, concerts, and walking his dog, Charlie. Most importantly, he strives to encourage all people he interacts with to pursue their interests to their fullest potential. Belmonte is extremely excited to build new connections and encourage all athletes to work as hard as they can — so if you find yourself in the trainers, you are in good hands!
