If you’ve recently been on TikTok and engaged with fashion content, Demetra Dias is a name you may have seen more than once. Last month, this 17-year-old influencer launched her first clothing collection with Beginning Boutique, an Australian-based online fashion retailer. This month, we can look forward to the restock of the collection, as more than half of her products have already sold out.
On her TikTok account, Dias posts various outfits, typically for school, holidays, or going out. She is known for wearing similar pieces in many of her videos: baggy jeans, fitted tops, or lounge pants. Dias’ relatively simple and accessible style has become highly recognized among Gen Z over the past year. With 3 million TikTok followers, some of her most popular videos have reached over 20 million views and 2 million likes, leading brands such as Pacsun and Hollister to sponsor her.
Demetra Dias’ influence has also spread to students at the Prep who admire her sense of fashion. Olivia Lim ‘28 says: “I feel like [Dias’ style] is always on trend… it’s made me buy so many low-rise baggy jeans… she has versatile pieces of clothing and you can pair each piece to create infinite outfits.”
Furthermore, the “timeless” aspect of Dias’ style is what makes her stand out from other fashion influencers. This encourages viewers to invest in clothing that will always be “in style” rather than trying to keep up with new trends that constantly come and go — therefore creating a sustainable wardrobe. This means having tried-and-true wardrobe staples that you can mix and match according to different occasions. A sustainable wardrobe is not only eco-friendly but also convenient, as it makes choosing your everyday outfits easier throughout the school year.
As Demetra Dias’ online presence grows, she continues to inspire Gen Z with her stylish yet sustainable outfits. Her ability to style basic pieces up or down shows that fashion and its ever-changing nature do not have to be wasteful in order to make a statement.
