With the constant reminders of dress code crackdowns, are Sacred Heart students’ expressive styles at risk? The back to school jitters are hard to avoid, especially when it comes to appearance. Nobody needs to be a fashionista, but feeling and looking confident at school is something we all want to achieve through our style. Nothing should constrain us from dressing how we like; the dress code should not limit us from expressing our unique styles. It is more than possible to look stylish whilst still adhering to the school’s policies.
Thin articles of clothing can be layered to give off a stylish effect whilst also staying cool in the seasonal heat. Mia Alvarado ‘28 “likes to wear a cardigan, especially when [she’s] wearing tank tops. [She] always [has] a little white cardigan on me, that way I can still follow dress code rules while still being stylish.”
Furthermore, shorts shouldn’t be the only option for bottoms that keep us cool. Lightweight skirts, dresses, and wide-leg pants can help our bodies regulate the heat. According to the blog Sophia’s Style, “splashing the door of comfort starts with using the right silhouettes. The more flowy and loose-fitting the better.” The garments are for keeping “you cool since they encourage air flow all around your body, avoiding sweaty build-up discomfort.”
Recommended school outfit ideas could include the following: bootcut jeans paired with a cute tank top and a cardigan, a flowy skirt with a baby tee, breathable dresses, and shorts with a basic shirt plus an eye-catching hoodie. The possibilities of stylish outfits are endless, so experiment and find styles that abide by the dress code despite the challenge.
