From the release of the seventh season of reality TV show “Love Island” to the rise of Labubu dolls, it feels like the summer trends have flown by. While we look back, new fashion looks have emerged with a particularly elevated style. As we began to accessorize with belts and swap out sneakers for boots, here’s a recap of some of the main fashion trends from this summer.
1. Polka dots
The official pattern of the summer was polka dots, which originated in the 1840s from Bohemian polka dancing. They have recently made their way onto midi skirts, tank tops, and even nail designs, embracing a playful yet sophisticated look.
2. Belts
Jeans began getting embellished with leather belts, adding flair to even the most basic outfits. They provide visual texture through different leathers and metallic finishes and help define the waistline for a flattering silhouette.
3. Babydoll tops
Babydoll tops typically have a fitted bodice and end in a flowy lower half. During the 20th century, the babydoll style replaced tight corsets and symbolized female emancipation. Brands have revived this idea, introducing babydoll tops with ruffle detailing and button-ups.
4. Boots
Especially at music festivals such as Outside Lands, Coachella, and Stagecoach, Western style returned, with knee-high leather boots becoming a staple shoe. They can be worn with mini skirts and shorts, paired with knee-high socks or sheer tights for urbane structure.
