If you haven’t already, make sure to come check out one of the Girls Varsity Volleyball games this year. The team is off to a great start with a record of 3-0 in league. This year they have a young roster containing two freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors, and just three seniors. The team has a lot of talent, and freshmen Leilah Abrams ‘28 and Gabrielle (Brie) Eisenberg ‘28, have begun to demonstrate their dominance on the court during their first Varsity season.
Abrams began playing volleyball at eight years old, hoping to follow in her sister’s footsteps. She currently plays at Vision, while Eisenberg plays at Academy. Eisenberg began playing during COVID after seeing a friend play, and she said she “always loved watching the SHP volleyball team play when she was in elementary school.” Both players attribute their successes in volleyball to their teammates and coaches who always push them to be the best players they can be. Their teammates, especially during this first season at SHP, encourage them to perform at a high level while always having fun. Abrams mentioned, “I’ve been enjoying getting closer to the team, and playing with older girls has been increasing my competitiveness.” And the feeling is mutual; Annabelle Yujuico ‘26 shared that their “infectious energy” is a big factor in the team’s strong chemistry this season. The duo is optimistic about their upcoming years at SHP, and the Gators are looking to continue their ongoing success into the rest of the season and CCS.
