Celebrating Senior Athletics

As SHP fall sports come to a close, seniors are being celebrated on all teams Sacred Heart does an incredible job at making senior days/nights extremely special. Each sport has a different tradition, all with the common goal of honoring, thanking, and celebrating each senior’s contributions to the programs over their four years at SHP.
Varsity Girls Water Polo celebrated their seniors with a win against Saint Francis. But, the celebration started earlier, with the younger members of the team setting up locker decorations and making shirts for their assigned seniors. Vivian Golub ‘25, says “my teammates made it really special by decorating our lockers and making shirts and they did a fantastic job making me feel extra special.” Golub continues, saying, “You spent so much time setting up senior day for others, that, when you have it yourself, it doesn’t feel real.”
For many student athletes, senior days mark a significant milestone — the culmination of four years of hard work, growth, and shared memories. Traditions such as cardboard cutouts and ceremonies before games are moments that will become cherished by athletes, and stay with them long after high school. Elliot Speaker ‘25 on Varsity Boys Football stated: “senior day was one of my favorite experiences at SHP…[it] was a time I could reflect on football and all that it has given me.” He also said, “being able to celebrate this tradition and walk down the tunnel surrounded by my teammates and family is an experience I am forever grateful for, and [I] am excited to accompany my brothers during their senior days in the future.” Senior days aren’t only about celebrating, they are also are about honoring the journey, looking forward to the future, and reminding students that the phrase “Once a Gator, always a Gator” always holds true.
