The holiday season is here, and alongside it, the end of the semester. With it comes the time that every student dreams of, holiday breaks! School breaks are an inevitable part of our schedules. Plans of whizzing out of school linger in the air as the clock ticks closer to that freeing dismissal from droning classes. Yet, once people are out of school this year, what are their plans? What are the hottest places for Sacred Heart students this chilly winter season?
Just a short road trip or plane ride away, SoCal has been a holiday destination for many Sacred Heart families for as long as the community can remember. Our school has close ties to multiple communities from the region like Homeboy Industries or family members who may be attending college nearby. When a gator goes down to the area, they know they are visiting a second home. Also, with fun destinations like Disneyland and Santa Monica Pier, it is hard not to have a good time. So for those with plans to go down to NorCal’s southern sister, some great events to attend include the annual Rose Bowl football game on New Year’s Day. And if you’re looking for a bit more remote location to wind down, a trip to Joshua Tree National Park is the perfect way to explore Southern California’s beautiful deserts. The many attractions in SoCal, as well as its near-perfect climate, are why it has been deemed such a staple for Sacred Heart vacationers.
As much as they like to stay near, Sacred Heart students also like to go far, and some of this year’s plans are a testament to that. From China to London, SHP gators are reaching across the globe to visit a variety of places, with many going to some of the oldest cities or the newest spots. One student spoke of going to visit a family member who was attending school in Copenhagen for a year abroad. With Christmas being the highlight of Danish winters, it is often celebrated with families roasting ducks and joining hands to sing carols around the fire. But if you are looking for warmer climates, you can take a quick, 14-hour flight east, where you might find another Sacred Heart family visiting relatives in India. Known for its festivals, India is the perfect place to ring in the New Year, with dazzling fireworks shows along Mumbai’s waterfront and celebrations on every block.
However, a majority of Sacred Heart students have found home to be the perfect place for a break this winter, most enjoyably in the company of family. Some ways to enjoy that holiday spirit are ice-skating, making wreaths, finally doing that Secret Santa, or just sitting around the fireplace with your loved ones while holding a hot cup of cocoa. Staying home with friends and family truly brings the holidays to life. For, what is the Holiday season without those who you care for most to spend it with you?
The range of plans our community has shared is what truly brings it to life. Wishing you a happy holiday season, enjoy the upcoming breaks, and have a wonderful time with your loved ones!
