Misinformation is everywhere today —on social media, in the news, in rumors around school. The Heartbeat has decided to do our part to combat it by highlighting a monthly piece of misinformation. 

This month, we want to talk about Kanye and a falsity pervading Tik Tok For You pages: Betrayal Lists. Earlier this year in March, Kanye West posted a list of people he feels have betrayed him, including John Legend, Kid Cuddy, and Travis Scott. 

According to Yahoo Entertainment, Kanye recently posted a secondary, much more absurd and egregious list of grievances, including animated characters Curious George and Patrick Star. This is not true! The secondary list was actually a parody created by an unrelated online user. 

Regardless, this spiraled into a TikTok trend in which users posted their own Betrayal Lists inspired by Kanye’s, where people call out everything they’ve been wronged by. The pervasiveness of this trend is a reminder that misinformation is rampant, especially in Social Media. Remember to never blindly accept what you see online.
