Sacred Heart’s new Boys Athletic Director, Chad Tyler, brings a mix of experiences, energy, and teamwork to the athletic department. Before joining SHP, he coached lacrosse at Bellarmine High School and led the Class of ‘30 ADVNC club lacrosse team. Before coaching sports, he served as a pilot in the Marine Corps and later became a senior manager and program manager at Apple. Through all those experiences, one major theme has stayed consistent for him: the importance of a team. This attitude has shaped the way he leads, whether it’s in the cockpit, a corporate meeting room, or on the sidelines of a lacrosse game.
One of the things Coach Tyler values most about SHP is the community. Unlike bigger schools, SHP gives students the chance to play more than one sport. Instead of specializing early in one sport, students here can try different things, meet new teammates, and build friendships across teams. Coach Tyler encourages people to play many sports to make new friends and try new things.
That sense of connection built from playing on a team is something he’s passionate about. Having worked in both the military and corporate worlds, he knows how important teamwork and communication are to success. Especially at smaller schools like SHP, every athlete matters, and every team relies on all players stepping up and helping one another. That’s exactly the kind of environment he hopes to strengthen as athletic director. He wants SHP sports to be competitive, but also collaborative—a place where students learn the values of hard work, commitment, and being part of something bigger than themselves. With his background, enthusiasm, and team-first approach, SHP’s new men’s athletic director is ready to continue building a culture where athletes support one another, take pride in their teams, and enjoy every chance to compete.
