1. Blend
Spotify Blend is a cheat code for anyone looking to subtly share their exquisite music taste with others. It’s a convenient way to ensure everyone’s happy when you’re on aux and an opportunity to get to know your friends better. Pro tip: if you make a blend with someone that you know has bad music taste, don’t forget to exclude the blend from your taste profile. I learned that the hard way. Regardless, Spotify Blend helps people connect, thus building community as a Christian value. Of course it’s number one.
2. Daily Mix
Up to six new themed playlists, each filled not just with your favorite songs but also with new music specifically chosen just for you, created every single day? Spotify Daily Mixes have earned their second-place seat on the podium. It seems that no matter your mood, you can open up their Spotify app and find a Daily Mix that fits your tastes in the moment to a T.
3. Wrapped
Few things can compare to the excitement that pervades the air in mid-December — partly because of Christmas, but mostly in eager anticipation for the annual release of Spotify Wrapped. Each year, Instagram feeds are populated by stories that offer not only a glimpse into others’ tastes, thoughts, and lives. Wrapped also makes space for personal reflection — do you really want your top artist to be Alpha Brain Waves? I didn’t think so. Let’s mix it up a little bit.
4. Discover Weekly
Good music. Fresh finds. What else is there to say? Discover Weekly takes fourth place.
5. DJ
Despite his voice popping up in between every few songs (I assume it’s guy, since he’s always mansplaining your music taste to you), he actually does have good recommendations, and curates the playlist to your tastes well. If his voice really bothers you that much, just tell him not to talk to you. He’s respectful; he’ll stop. Still, it’s a little annoying. Fifth place.
6. AI Playlists
Searching for a vague vibe or a generic genre? Spotify’s AI playlists have got you covered. But I’m picky, and the AI’s playlist is always “taking shape” for about five minutes in response to my prompts. The final product? It’s almost never what you’re looking for. So if you’re like me, looking for something specific? Sorry, but the AI just can’t handle it.
